The Emmy-winning drama will finish it’s successful run next Sunday in the US. The auction of props include the resident pink teddy bear with one eyeball, Skyler White’s jeep and the yellow chemical protection suits that Walter White and Jesse Pinkman wear in the show.

Walter’s book bag from his days as a teacher is also up for grabs. But focus is one the white underwear Walter wore in the opening episode of the show. Bids for this item are starting at $250.

The auction is expected to raise $2 million, but we reckon that the end amount will be higher than that.

G8 cost us 3.6 million euro

24 Sep

The Irish taxpayers will have to fork out 3.6 million euro for hosting the G8 Summit last June.

The cost of policing the summit ran to at least 3.64 million according to Garda operating costs. But on Guard still said “It was certainly less than what was anticipated”, because the event was so low key.

The summit, which took place in Co.Fermanagh, saw around 900 Garda officers mount “Operation Shield” to counter any potential trouble that might have occurred.

Socialist Party TD, Joe Higgins, said the figure is “simply outrageous”, adding “spending that amount of money is simply outrageous against the backdrop of cuts to public services. The ordinary people have to pay for [the G8’s] protection.

This news came on the same day a survey showed that one-in-five Irish people have as little as 20 euro left at the end of the month.

Diageo Executive to spend Arthur’s Day in A&E

24 Sep

A Diageo executive has said he will spend Arthur’s night in a hospital A&E department – but he is not responsible if people end up drunk.

Peter O’Brien has said he will report back to the company on what he witnesses on the night. O’Brien is the European corporate relations Director of the company.

O’Brien revealed how some of his colleagues had done this before in A&E departments in London on the night of the celebrations and that it was “frightening”.

However, he added “The reality is people make choices and some people choose to over-drink and end up in A&E and every person who ends up in A&E is a bad thing. But you can’t lay that at the door of the publicans or the individual companies like ourselves.”

O’Brien rejected the suggestion that drinks companies should make a financial contribution to hospitals. However, amid growing controversy over the day, there is the possibility that Diageo may pull the plug on the annual event.

Do you think people are over-reacting or should the day be cancelled?
